The Experience

Tour Overview

A 5-day road trip from Manali to Kaza and Chandratal Lake is a fast-paced, high-octane adventure that trades leisurely relaxation for jaw-dropping, raw Himalayan scenery. Over less than a week, you will transition from the lush green pine forests of Manali, speed through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel, and enter the rugged, high-altitude cold desert of Spiti Valley before sleeping under a blanket of stars at the mystical Chandratal (Moon Lake).

Day 1
DAY 1

Manali Arrival

Arrive in Manali via the overnight Volvo from Delhi. Check into your hotel and spend the day taking it entirely easy. What to do: Take a slow walk down Mall Road or visit Old Manali's cafes. Avoid heavy physical exertion. Crucial Step: This is the day you buy your snacks, hydration drinks, and ensure your physical health for the next day's massive altitude jump. Overnight: Hotel in Manali.

Day 2
DAY 2

Manali to Chandratal

Distance/Time: 125 km | 5–6 hours Altitude Jump: 2,050m to 4,300m 🚨 (Expect a dramatic temperature drop). The Journey: Leave Manali by 7:00 AM. Cross the smooth Atal Tunnel and immediately head down the rugged, unpaved tracks from Gramphu to Chhatru. Stop at the legendary Chacha-Chachi Chandra Dhaba at Batal for lunch. The Lake: Reach the campsite by 2:00 PM. Rest for an hour, then head up to the parking lot and take the gentle 2 km walk to the gorgeous, crescent-shaped Chandrataal Lake. Pro-Tip: Drink lots of water, walk slowly, and do not fall asleep immediately upon reaching the camps; give your body time to adapt to the thin air. Overnight: Luxury/Swiss Tents near Chandrataal.

Day 3
DAY 3

Chandratal to Kaza

Distance/Time: 100 km | 4 hours The Journey: Wake up early to catch the crisp reflection of the mountains in the lake (if you fancy another quick visit), then hit the road. You’ll cross the mighty Kunzum Pass (4,551m), stopping briefly at the mountaintop temple for blessings. As you descend into the Spiti Valley, watch the landscape change into a barren, majestic cold desert. Afternoon: Reach Kaza by lunchtime. Check into your hotel and spend a relaxed evening exploring the colorful local Kaza market. Overnight: Hotel / Homestay in Kaza.

Day 4
DAY 4

Kaza Sightseeing

Distance/Time: 60 km loop | 5 hours The Highlights: Today is about checking off Spiti’s icons: Key Monastery: The stunning, multi-tiered fortress-like monastery. Chicham Bridge: The highest suspension bridge in Asia, spanning a massive gorge. Hikkim: Send a physical postcard to your family from the World’s Highest Post Office. Langza: Capture a photo with the massive, golden Buddha statue overlooking the snow-capped peaks. Overnight: Hotel / Homestay in Kaza.

Day 5
DAY 5

Kaza to Manali & Return to Delhi

Distance/Time: 185 km road trip | 8–9 hours + 10 hours Volvo ride. The Grind: A non-negotiable 4:30 AM or 5:00 AM departure from Kaza. You need to cross the rocky riverbeds of Chhatru and Gramphu before the afternoon sun melts the glaciers and floods the streams (Pagal Nallahs). The Transition: You will cross back through the Atal Tunnel and arrive at the Manali Private Volvo Bus Stand by 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM. Return Journey: Board your evening luxury Volvo bus back down to Delhi. Overnight: Semi-Sleeper journey on the bus, arriving in Delhi early the next morning
